"The purpose of the Young Hoosier Book Award Program is to stimulate recreational reading among elementary and middle school/junior high school children and to encourage cooperation between administrators, school media specialists, teachers, public libraries, and the community in providing reading experiences for Indiana school children."

Each year students are presented a list of the Young Hoosier Book nominees. They are asked to read at least 5 throughout the school year. The middle of April students who have completed the reading are asked to vote for their favorite book. The votes are tallied throughout the state, and the author is presented with the Young Hoosier Book Award. Fegely students who participate in voting will be invited to a pizza party in the Media Center in May.

This year we have a wide variety of books from which to choose. All are AR books. Students can find a short summary of each of the 20 nominees. The reading level and number of AR points for each is included.
